Dag Rotterdam! HY-5 at the World Hydrogen Summit & Exhibition
One of Rotterdam’s landmarks is the iconic Hotel New York on the Wilheminapier. The building is the former headquarters of the Holland-Amerika-Lijn shipping line and was the destination of thousands of travellers in the early years of the 20th century who came here in the hope of a better world. And the topic of a better world was also on the agenda in Rotterdam last week, as the World Hydrogen Summit & Exhibition 2025, one of the largest hydrogen trade fairs in the world, was held here again this year with thousands of international visitors. HY-5 was also represented with a stand for the first time. Under the umbrella of the German joint stand, the North German hydrogen initiative presented itself to the global specialist community as a partner for green hydrogen solutions. This year’s trade fair was more international than ever: delegations from Australia, Japan, Finland, Canada, India, the UK and many other regions visited the trade fair and came to HY-5 to find out about opportunities for setting up a business and the development of the northern German hydrogen ecosystem. The numerous discussions centred on professional exchange and cross-border networking with the aim of promoting new collaborations in the global hydrogen economy and strengthening existing relationships.
Highlights: ‘BEER@4’ stand reception, panel discussion and visit from the ambassador One of the highlights of this year’s World Hydrogen Summit & Exhibition was the visit to the HY-5 stand by Dr. Nikolaus Meyer-Landrut, Head of the German Embassy in Den Haag, who came to the German pavilion to find out about current projects and developments. Another highlight was the panel discussion organised by Germany Trade & Invest on the topic of relocating to Germany, at which Heike Tipmonta (2nd from left), Head of Business Services at the City of Hamburg, represented the initiative as a speaker.
On the second day of the trade fair, Heike Tipmonta presented the hydrogen region of northern Germany to a Finnish delegation and other international visitors at the German Pavilion (organised by GTAI) in order to further strengthen relations and discuss opportunities for setting up business here.
As part of the trade fair, HY-5 also took part in an expert meeting on India’s plans for green shipping. In addition, a bilateral exchange took place with representatives of the German-Brazilian Chamber of Industry and Commerce.
Last but not least, the ‘Beer@4’ stand reception provided the perfect opportunity for informal dialogue with guests from politics, business and science – including Willemien Terpstra, CEO of Dutch Gasunie – and to discuss potential collaborations. “HY-5 is a role model for many regions around the world. Taking part in the trade fair in Rotterdam was a great opportunity to present our activities to the international specialist community,” says a delighted Heike Tipmonta. “Almost nowhere else do so many decision-makers from politics, business, associations, economic development organisations and companies come together as in Rotterdam. We are looking forward to deepening the contacts and discussions made here at the Hydrogen Technology Expo in Hamburg in October.”
The trade fair programme was complemented by intensive technical discussions with energy and hydrogen experts from the Federal Ministry of Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE) – all in all, a very successful premiere for the North German hydrogen initiative in Rotterdam. We komen zeker terug – tot de volgende keer.
